"We are very pleased and excited about the recruiting class we were able to sign this year," said Guevara. "We signed a very athletic group of kids, but more importantly, a very hard-working group of kids. In addition to being athletic, this is a blue-collar group, which I think is a key ingredient in the development of young players."
Pool, who is a 6-1 small forward, is one of the highest ranked players ever to sign with the Wolverines. Pool was the preseason No. 1 player in the state of Michigan according to both the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. In addition, Pool is ranked as the No. 4 player in the country by Women's Basketball Journal and the No. 3 player in the nation by All-Stater Magazine. The all-time leading scorer at Huron High School, Pool is averaging 21.6 points per game as a senior and was named to the AAU All-American team at the 2000 Nationals in Tennessee.
"Tabitha is obviously a tremendous talent and is the top player in the state," said Guevara. "Tabitha is one of best players we have brought to Michigan and she has the type of talent that will improve everybody around her."
McPhillamy, who is a 6-2 power forward, is second on the all-time scoring list at Portage Northern High School and should leave as the school's all-time leader in rebounding. She currently has 692 career rebounds and needs just 22 more caroms to break the school record of 713. The forward was a 1999 all-state selection as a junior and is a 2000 candidate for Ms. Basketball in the state of Michigan.
"McPhillamy is a very fundamentally sound basketball player who is equally adept at using her right or left hand around the basket," said Guevara. "She also possesses a nose for the ball and is an excellent rebounder."
Mason, a 6-2 post player, is currently averaging 24 points and 20 rebounds per game at Murray-Wright High School. Mason also averages close to eight blocks per game and shoots 73 percent from the free throw line. "Mason is a true power post player and we are very excited about her potential," said Guevara. "Mason has a lot of upside because she has not played organized ball for very long. Her best basketball is definitely ahead of her."
"Overall, this class has athleticism, a blue-collar work ethic and a nice inside-out balance offensively," said Guevara. "We feel these kids are going keep our program going in the right direction."
