The Wolverines continued to impress in the pole vault as Michigan finished 1-2 in that event for the second consecutive week. Sophomore Brent Sheffer (Traverse City, Mich./Central HS) led the way for the Maize and Blue by posting a mark of 16-6 3/4. Sheffer was followed by junior Charles DeWildt (Wyoming, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central), who vaulted 16-0.
Michigan also took the top two spots in the 600-meter run as sophomore Jeremy Schneider (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover HS) won with a time of 1:20.42, while senior Steve Moffat (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park HS) came in second (1:20.96). The finish was the most impressive in that event for Michigan this season as both men broke the Jack Skoog Indoor Track record of 1:21.20. Following close behind Schneider and Moffat was freshman Phil Stead (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child HS), who finished in the fourth spot (1:21.60).
In the sprints, Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) posted a Jack Skoog Indoor Track record in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.79, breaking the mark by one-tenth of a second. The sophomore would later go on to finish second in the 60-meter dash final (6.86) and win the 200-meter dash (21.63).
The other Wolverine victory came in the 3,000-meter run. Senior Steve Lawrence (Consecon, Ontario/East Northumberland SS) paced the Maize and Blue with a time of 8:34.72, winning the event by less than a second.
Michigan closes out the regular-season portion of its indoor schedule by hosting the Silverston Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 19) at noon at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
