Michigan's best effort in the field events came via the pole vault, where it owned the top two spots in the second section of that event. Charles DeWildt (Wyoming, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) won a pole vault event for the second straight week as placed first with a vault of 16-10 3/4. DeWildt also tied for fifth in the top section of the pole vault later in the day with the same height. Following DeWildt in the second section of the pole vault was teammate Brent Sheffer (Traverse City, Mich./Central HS), with a vault of 16-4 3/4. Wolverine thrower Patrik Johansson (Karlstad, Sweden/Tingvalla Gymansiet HS) also delivered a solid performance to place third in the hammer throw (188-6).
Michigan's sprinters were paced by sophomore Derek Applewhite (Brighton, Colo./Brighton HS), who set a personal record (52.52) in the 400-meter hurdles for the second straight week to place third. Wolverine junior Josh Sellers (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee HS) placed 10th in the 400 hurdles with a pace of 53.88, while Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) finished 10th in the 200-meter dash (21.50).
Michigan's other top-10 finishers were Nick Rogers (Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm HS), who placed sixth in the shot put (51-0 3/4), and Jeremy Schneider (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover HS), who placed sixth in the 800-meter run (1:52.09).
The Maize and Blue will take a week off before traveling to Durham, N.C., April 7-8 for the Duke Invitational.
