Michigan Nosed Out by Ohio State at Triangular Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team scored 144 points to finish second at the Ohio State Triangular on Saturday (April 22) at the Jesse Owens Track and Field Complex. The host Buckeyes edged out the Wolverines with 150 points, while Seton Hall (83) placed third.

The Wolverines were led by three first-place finishers. Erica Murdock (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights HS) won the 800-meter dash with a season-best time of 2:14.15, while Tasha Phillips (Sarasota, Fla./Booker HS) was tops in the triple jump with a leap of 38-5 (11.71 meters). Erin White (Battle Creek, Mich./Central HS) 3,000-meter run time of 10:14.7 outlasted teammate Katie Easton's (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) second-place time of 10:35.6.

The strength of Ohio State's sprinters was the difference in the event, but Maria Brown (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception HS) fared well for the Wolverines, coming in second in the 200-meter dash (24.84) to Seton Hall's top sprinter, Nolle Graham (24.78), and Brown placed third in the 100-meter dash (11.90) behind Ohio State All-American Donica Merriman (11.80) and Graham (11.81).

The Maize and Blue will return to action next weekend on Friday and Saturday (April 28-29) at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
