Parrish Wins Fisher Award as Michigan's Baseball MVP

Michigan head coach Geoff Zahn announced that junior lefthander Nick Alexander (Alpena, Mich./Alpena HS) was the winner of the GEOFF ZAHN MOST VALUABLE PITCHER AWARD. Alexander started the season as the bullpen closer, but became Michigan's number one starter. He pitched three nine-inning complete games and led the Wolverines with a 3.10 ERA.
Alexander shared the team lead with 14 appearances and had a 4-2 record with one save. He worked 61 innings and collected series-opening Big Ten wins vs. Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa. His other win was also in a Big Ten start, at Indiana.
Senior tri-captain Kevin Quinn (Midland, Mich./Midland HS), who earned the starting job at third base after serving as an important utility player for three years, was named recipient of THE WOLVERINE AWARD for spirit and leadership. Quinn made 37 starts and hit .286. In U-M's two wins over Michigan State, he scored the winning run in the first game and drove in the winner in the second. He doubled in his last career at bat on Sunday (May 14) vs. Iowa.
Junior shortstop/second baseman Scott Tousa (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands HS) was named winner of the TED SIZEMORE AWARD as Michigan's top defensive player and he was also named winner of the BETTY SIMMONS AWARD as Michigan's Most Improved Player.
Tousa started 51 of 53 games with 29 starts at shortstop and 22 starts at second base. He led the team with 150 assists and participated in 46 of the 62 Wolverine double plays. He led the team with 291 fielding chances and made just 14 errors for a .952 fielding percentage.
Tousa, who hit .274 as a sophomore in 1999, finished the season with a 17-game hitting streak and he was second on the team with a .337 overall batting average. Tousa led the team with 66 hits and was second on the team with a .387 Big Ten average. He had hits in 25 of the 28 Big Ten games and finished with an 18-game conference only hitting streak.
The Wolverines closed the season with a 20-32-1 overall record and finished eighth in the Big Ten standings with a 10-18 mark.
