PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan junior catcher David Parrish (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) was named the All-Big Ten Conference first team catcher, and sophomore RHP Bobby Korecky (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) was named to the All-Big Ten third team. The All-Big Ten teams, selected by the league coaches, were announced Wednesday (May 17) from the conference office.
Parrish, who finished second in the Big Ten batting race with a .415 (39-for-94) batting average and shared the league lead with seven homers, is the seventh Wolverine catcher to earn first team all-conference honors. Korecky, who was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for his one-hitter vs. Iowa (May 14), ranked second in the conference with his 1.95 ERA. In overall action Korecky was 5-3 with five complete games and two shutouts and a 3.39 ERA that was fourth among Big Ten pitchers.
Parrish, who was voted Michigan's Most Valuable Player, led the Wolverines in overall action with a .356 batting average. He led the Wolverines in homers (11), RBI (41), total bases (102), slugging percentage (.621), on-base percentage (.432), sacrifice flies (5) and putouts (228).
