Phillips in Contention in Heptathlon at Big Ten Meet

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team began competition in the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 19) but did not earn points in the day's three event finals. However, sophomore Tasha Phillips (Sarasota, Fla./Booker HS) held seventh place after the first day of the heptathon.
Phillips placed second in the heptathlon's 100-meter hurdles (14.16), earning 964 points, and fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.45), earning 846 points. She will compete in the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run in tomorrow's competition to determine the heptathlon champion.
With three of 21 events completed, Purdue is in first place with 36 points, followed by closely by Minnesota (34). Wisconsin (22) and Indiana (14) are the only other schools with double-digit point totals.
The three-day event continues through Sunday.
