Parrish led the Wolverines in hitting with a .356 batting average in overall play and he finished second in the Big Ten batting race with .415 conference-only average. He was also named winner of the Bill Freehan Award as Michigan's top hitter. Parrish led the Wolverines in homers (11), RBI (41), total bases (102), slugging percentage (.621), on-base percentage (.432), sacrifice flies (5) and putouts (228).
With 25 career homers Parrish ranks ninth on Michigan's all-time homer list, one shy of two-time All-America shortstop Barry Larkin (26 homers, 1983-85).
Parrish, who was drafted in the 10th round by the Yankees out of high school in 1997, was the first player selected from the state of Michigan and the first player selected from the Big Ten Conference. He was the third catcher taken in the draft and first university-level catcher selected.
Parrish is the son of Lance Parrish, a 19-year Major Leaguer who was the first round pick of the Detroit Tigers in June 1974.
