Sugar, Kelemen Earn Athlete of the Week Awards

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior co-captain Melissa Sugar (Newburgh, Ind./Evansville Day School) and freshman Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown HS) of the No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team have been selected as Big Ten Conference women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for their performances at the Wolverine Invitational this past weekend (Jan. 12-13).
This marks the second such career award for Kelemen and the first for Sugar, a five-time NCAA All-American. Kelemen was selected for the award earlier this season for her performance at the Eastern Michigan Invitational (Dec. 1-2).

Sugar turned in two individual first-place finishes, capturing the 100- and 200-yard freestyles in 52.37 and 1:53.07, respectively. In addition, she contributed to four winning relay efforts, leading the Wolverines to first-place finishes in the 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays and the 400-yard medley relay.
On the diving boards, Kelemen finished second in both events, scoring NCAA zone diving qualifying marks of 261.45 on the one-meter springboard and 287.25 on the three-meter board.
The Wolverines travel to Columbus, Ohio, Saturday (Jan. 20) to take on Ohio State. The dual meet begins at 4 p.m.
