Vetere's Three Titles Boost Wolverines Past Illinois

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) and senior tri-captain Kevin Roulston (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township HS) led the top-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team to a 214.000-208.350 victory over No. 4 Illinois on Friday (Jan. 26) at Cliff Keen Arena. The Wolverines won four of the six events (floor exercise, pommel horse, parallel bars and horizontal bar).

Vetere captured first-place honors on the pommel horse (9.400), parallel bars (9.150) and the high bar (9.400). He finished third on both the still rings (9.250) and floor exercise (8.900). Roulston took home the all-around title with a score of 52.150, winning the vault (9.150) while finishing second on the floor exercise (9.100) and fifth on the high bar (8.750).

Junior Brad Kenna (Barberton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit HS) finished second on vault (9.100), third on high bar (8.950) and fourth on the parallel bars (8.700), while senior tri-captain Tim Dehr (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) took second place on the pommel horse (9.000), fourth on both the floor exercise (8.800) and vault (8.950) and fifth on parallel bars (8.600).

The Wolverines return to action next weekend when they travel to State College, Pa., to compete against Penn State on Saturday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m.
