The Wolverines were led by sophomore all-around winner Kris Zimmerman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS) and junior two-event titlist Daniel Diaz-Luong (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt HS).
Zimmerman earned first-place honors in the all-around with a score of 52.050 while capturing second place on the floor exercise (9.050), vault (9.100) and horizontal bar (8.800). Diaz-Luong won the parallel bars (8.850) and high bar (9.200) while placing fifth on the pommel horse (8.250) and still rings (8.800).
Junior Brad Kenna (Barberton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit HS) took second on the parallel bars (8.700) and third on vault (9.050), and junior Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) captured the Wolverines' other event title, finishing in first place on the pommel horse with a 9.300.
The Wolverines were forced to go without senior tri-captain Kevin Roulston (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township HS), who injured his knee in warmups. The extent of the injury will not be known until he sees the doctor when the team returns to Ann Arbor.
Six Michigan team members will face some of the other top individuals in the country next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 9-10) in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Winter Cup Challenge, a USA Gymnastics-sponsored invitational.
