PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan junior All-American Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) has been designated as the Big Ten Conference Men's Gymnast of the Week for his performance during the dual meet against Illinois on Jan. 26.
In Michigan's 214.000-208.350 home victory over the Illini, Vetere won three individual event titles, including the pommel horse (9.400), parallel bars (9.150) and high bar (9.400). He also finished third on both the floor exercise (8.900) and still rings (9.250).

Already in this short 2001 campaign, Vetere has been an integral part of the men's gymnastics team. Currently ranked as the top gymnast in the nation on the parallel bars and high bar, Michigan's 2000 co-Male Athlete of the Year has already received six first-place titles.
This marks the third time Vetere has received this prestigious honor in his Michigan career. He garnered Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors in consecutive weeks last year (March 9, March 16) en route to becoming the 2000 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year.
Vetere and the top-ranked Wolverines will head to State College, Pa., to face No. 6 Penn State on Saturday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. at Rec Hall.
