Wolverines Top GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll

The Wolverines have a stellar lineup for the 2001 campaign as they return five NCAA All-Americans, including 2000 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and Big Ten pommel horse, still rings, and vault champion Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) and NCAA parallel bars champion and U.S. National Team member Justin Toman (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall HS). Also back are Big Ten and NCAA parallel bars champion Kris Zimmerman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS) and Big Ten high bar champion Daniel Diaz-Luong (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt HS).
Michigan faces tough competition this season, meeting No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Oklahoma, and No. 4 Penn State. The Wolverines will also compete against No. 8 Illinois, No. 10 Michigan State, No. 11 Massachusetts, No. 12 Minnesota and No. 14 Illinois-Chicago. Michigan will meet No. 6 Iowa at the Big Ten Championships, held March 23-24 in State College, Pa.
Michigan will begin its 2001 season at the Windy City Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 13) at 7 p.m. CST in Chicago, Ill. The Wolverines return to Ann Arbor one week later (Jan. 20) to open the home schedule against Ohio State at Cliff Keen Arena.
