ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's soccer head coach Debbie Rademacher earned her 100th win at U-M as the No. 23-ranked Wolverines battled back to defeat Michigan State 2-1 on Friday (Oct. 26) at the U-M Soccer Field. With the victory, Michigan's eighth at home this season (8-1-0), the Wolverines tied the school single-season mark for home wins, matching the 1997 (8-0-0) and 1999 (8-1-0) teams.
Abby Crumpton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS), who scored both goals for the Wolverines, got the game-winner 81:19 into the contest. Erika Kleinholz (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS) kicked a perfect pass from the inside to Crumpton, who then deked past the Spartan defender for a one-on-one chance with MSU goalkeeper Stacy Heller. Heller tried to cut down the angle on the shot, but Crumpton kicked the ball on the ground to the far right corner of the net. The game-winner was her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
The Wolverines (10-5-1, 8-2 Big Ten) were down 1-0 at halftime after the Spartans scored an early goal at 5:42 following a bad clear by the Wolverines. MSU's lead didn't hold for long after halftime as the Wolverines carried the momentum for the first six minutes of the second half. U-M controlled the ball in the Spartan end for five straight minutes.
U-M's intensity through the wind, rain and cold paid off as freshman Theresa Dwyer (Metairie, La./Mt. Carmel Academy) passed the ball from midfield to fellow freshman Kate Morgan (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS), who dumped it in to Crumpton around the 18-yard mark. Spartan goalkeeper Heller was calling for it but could not come out to handle the ball because it had not entered inside the box. Crumpton faked out Heller to her right, tapped the ball ahead and scored on an empty net to even the score at 64:23.
Returning from injuries were Stephanie Chavez (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood HS) and Michele Pesiri (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart HS), who saw action midway through the second half. Chavez added a shot, while Pesiri was a vocal spark for the Wolverine offense. Goalkeeper Bre Bennett (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) earned her first win of the season as she faced six shots and made one save.
The Wolverines are on the road Sunday (Oct. 28, 1 p.m.) as they travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on No. 8 Notre Dame at Alumni Field.

Q U O T E S
U-M Head Coach Debbie Rademacher
On the team's performance ... "I was disappointed that we couldn't take advantage of the wind in the first half. We couldn't get the ball to settle at all. Michigan State only had two shots on goal and one of them ended up being a goal. But after halftime we played good soccer."
On her 100th win at U-M ... "To tell you the truth, I didn't even realize that this was the game to reach 100. I didn't know this was coming up on me. I can't believe I have been here this long. I am honored and pleased to have had such great players and coaches along the way."
On facing Notre Dame on Sunday ... "We are going to have to do a much better job of holding onto the ball up front and working with our possession. We just have to go in there and be confident."
Junior Forward Abby Crumpton
On her first goal of the game ... "The defender was actually ahead of me on the play and I think that their keeper thought the ball was inside the 18-yard mark for her to play. But it wasn't, so I passed their defender and got the shot."
On her second goal ... "Erika Kleinholz gave me a perfect pass from the inside. The defender thought I was going to try and take it to the side, but I just went past her."

Head coach Debbie Rademacher owns a 100-56-11 record (.632) in her eighth season as the only leader the Wolverines have had as a varsity program. Including her two seasons as coach at Fairfield (18-11-4 in 1992-93), she is 118-67-17 (.617) as a college head coach.
Abby Crumpton's two goals against the Spartans were her seventh and eighth of the season, passing her goal total from last season (7) with two games remaining. Crumpton now has 27 goals in her career at U-M.
Michigan extended its home unbeaten streak to eight games with today's win over Michigan State and tied the school single-season record for home victories (8 in 1997, '99). The Wolverines have one regular-season home game remaining, against Western Michigan on Nov. 3.
U-M's come-from-behind win against the Spartans was the first time this season the Wolverines have been down in a game and battled back to win. It also marked the first time the Wolverines won without scoring the first goal of the match.
Michigan, which last week clinched second place in the Big Ten Conference, closed out its league schedule with an 8-2 record, matching the school record for league wins in a season. The Wolverines were 8-1-1 in the Big Ten in 1999.
U-M is now 5-0 when playing in cold, wet and windy conditions. The Wolverines have defeated Dayton (1-0), Iowa (1-0), Ohio State (4-0), Purdue (1-0) and Michigan State (2-1) in bad weather.
