"I really like this class because of the athleticism it brings to our program," stated head coach Sue Guevara. "The kids we signed on the perimeter can get out and go and that was something we were looking to upgrade with this class, but I also am very pleased with the size of our three perimeter recruits. Andrews, Carney and Douglas are all 5-9 or bigger and they combine that size with excellent athleticism on the perimeter, so I am looking forward to combining these kids with the post players we currently have. Reams is more of a frontcourt player and possesses a lot of versatility, which is something we are always looking for.
"Another thing I like about this class is the fact that all three of our in-state recruits (Carney, Douglas and Reams) are still playing in their respective state tournaments and going for regional championships, which means each one of those kids is coming from a good program and they know what it takes to win."
Andrews and Douglas are ranked among the Top 100 players in the country by the All Star Girls Reports at No. 90 and 77, respectively. Additionally, Douglas is ranked No. 45 by Blue Star and is the highest ranked player from the state of Michigan by Blue Star. Andrews averaged 14 points, four assists and four steals as a junior, while Douglas averaged 16 points and six assists during her junior campaign.
Carney led Flint Powers Catholic High School to the 2000 Michigan Class B state title from the point guard position and was named as a Class B All-State second-team selection by the Detroit News. Reams rounds out the in-state trio and was the Detroit Free Press preseason No. 5 player in the state heading into her senior campaign. Additionally, Carney was named as the preseason No. 8 player in the state of Michigan by the Detroit Free Press. Reams was also a Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) All-State third-team selection following her junior season in 2000 before being named as the 2001 preseason No. 5 player in the state by the Detroit Free Press.
