
Michigan to Head to Texas for Sweet 16 Matchup Against Louisville

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (27-6) will head to the Lone Star State to face Louisville (29-7) in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday (March 28) at Dickies Arena. The game is set for 11:30 a.m. CT and can be seen live on ABC.
Notes
• Michigan has advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third time in program history after wins over Holy Cross and NC State to advance to Fort Worth. U-M made back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in 2021 and 2022.
• Michigan and Louisville are meeting for the ninth time and the third time in the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals recorded a 71-50 win in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament at the KFC Yum! Center and a 62-50 win in the regional final of the 2022 NCAA Tournament in Wichita. U-M is 3-0 against ACC schools this season, with wins over Notre Dame, Syracuse and NC State.
• Michigan's sophomore starters -- Olivia Olson, Syla Swords and Mila Holloway -- have each picked up their game in the NCAA Tournament. All three are scoring above their season average, with Olson and Swords averaging 19.5 points per game and Holloway going for 16.5 points per game. Olson had 27 points -- all in the second half -- against NC State to move her season total to 633, good for sixth all-time in a season at Michigan. Swords poured in 26 points against the Wolfpack, hitting the 1,000-point mark for her career. Holloway went for 20 points against Holy Cross and is averaging 8.5 rebounds in Michigan's two NCAA Tournament games.
• Michigan is heading to Texas for the first time since the 2021 NCAA Tournament held in San Antonio.
• Brooke Quarles Daniels has continued to have an impact for the Wolverines in her final season. In Michigan's game against No. 5 Vanderbilt, she recorded seven points, 10 rebounds and four assists while holding Mikayla Blakes to a season-low 14 points. She hit the double-figure mark in Michigan's win over Holy Cross (March 20), going for 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Quarles Daniels had five steals against NC State (March 22) to go with six points, six rebounds and five assists. On the season, she has appeared in all 33 games, starting 29 times. She is averaging 5.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in 25.4 minutes per game. BQD leads U-M with 82 steals, racking up 16 games with at least three steals. She is second in the Big Ten in steals per game at 2.5.
• Michigan is the second-highest scoring team in the conference, also ranking ninth nationally at 83.9 points per game. U-M is 25-0 when scoring at least 80 points after going for 92 points against NC State (March 22).
• Swords hit the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season, scoring 26 points against NC State (March 22) to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career. Her last 20-point game came with 22 points on the strength of four three-pointers at No. 13 Ohio State (Feb. 28). Swords hit a triple with 15 seconds remaining to give the Wolverines a three-point lead before the game headed to overtime. She has made a team-leading 80 three-pointers, ranking fourth in the Big Ten with 2.5 per game. Swords is averaging 14.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in a team-high 33.7 minutes per game.
• Holloway has elevated her game during her sophomore season, averaging 12.6 points per game on 43.6 percent shooting from the floor. She has handed out 158 assists through 33 games, good for 4.8 per game to rank sixth in the league. She has scored in double figures in 22 games and is playing 28.9 minutes per game. She handed out 10 assists in Michigan's Big Ten Tournament win over Oregon (March 6), the first Wolverine to hit double digits since the 2022-23 season.
• The winner of this game will face the winner of Kentucky and Texas on Monday (March 30).
