Weilbacher Posts NCAA Automatic Time in 100 Fly

ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team finished the second day of competition at the Georgia Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 1) in fifth place with 336 points. Defending national champion Georgia leads the nine-team field at the Gabrielsen Natatorium with 580 points, followed by Northwestern (405).
The Wolverines' best performance on the day came from sophomore Annie Weilbacher (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS). Weilbacher posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 54.32 in the 100-yard butterfly, which placed her second in the event. Weilbacher also joined senior Lindsay Carlberg (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS), sophomore Kelli Stein (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Waterson HS) and junior Laura Kaznecki (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Wolverine Lake HS) on the 200-yard medley relay team that placed fourth while earning an NCAA consideration time at 1:42.63.
Carlberg and Stein also posted individual times that were worthy of an NCAA consideration. Carlberg finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke at 55.97 and Stein was third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.51.
Other members of the team to earn NCAA consideration times for Michigan were freshman Amy McCullough (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy HS) and sophomore Sara Johnson (West Bloomfield, Mich./Lahser HS). McCullough, who earned an NCAA consideration time in the 500-yard freestyle on the first day of competition, followed up on Saturday by placing fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.91. Johnson also earned her second NCAA consideration time in as many days with a time of 4:22.45 in the 400-yard individual medley, which placed her fifth in the event.
The Georgia Invitational will conclude on Sunday (Dec. 2) at the Gabrielsen Natatorium with prelims scheduled for 9 a.m. and the finals at 3 p.m.
