Cammalleri Named Assistant Captain on Canadian Team

NORTH YORK, Ontario -- University of Michigan junior forward Mike Cammalleri (Richmond Hill, Ontario), a member of the Wolverines' ice hockey team, has been named one of two assistant captains on the 22-player roster for the Canadian National Junior Team that will compete in the 2002 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship, the Canadian Hockey Association announced today (Saturday, Dec. 15). The World Junior Championship, which features the world's top players under 20 years old, is scheduled for Dec. 25, 2001-Jan. 4, 2002, in Pardubice and Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.

Canada's National Junior Team was unveiled this morning for a team photo at the Beatrice Ice Gardens on the York University campus, and the entire team was also introduced at the Canadian Men's Olympic Team press conference at the Hockey Hall of Fame. The players and coaches will be part of the pregame ceremonies for the contest between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens tonight (Dec. 15) at the Air Canada Centre.
The 2002 Canadian National Junior Team will remain in Canada until Monday (Dec. 17), when it travels to the Czech Republic for exhibition games against Liberec, a Czech Division I team (Dec. 20), and Finland (Dec. 22) before opening the World Junior Hockey Championship against France on Dec. 25.
