Representing the University of Michigan are seniors Tim Dehr (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) and Kevin Roulston (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township HS), juniors Daniel Diaz-Luong (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt HS), Brad Kenna (Barberton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit HS) and Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS), and sophomore Kris Zimmerman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS).
The first day of competition (Friday, Feb. 9) will consist of the preliminary all-around competition and the individual event finals. It has been divided into two sessions, with half of the gymnasts falling into session one and the remaining competitors performing in session two. The top 36 gymnasts from the preliminary all-around will advance to the second day of competition (Saturday, Feb. 10). The top three all-around finishers will claim the remaining spots on the 2000-01 U.S. National Team.
Michigan's gymnasts have been split evenly between the two sessions. Dehr, Roulston and Vetere will compete in the first session, while Diaz-Luong, Kenna and Zimmerman will perform during the final session. Senior tri-captain and current U.S. National Team member Justin Toman (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall HS) will travel with the squad but will not compete due to injury.
The top-ranked Wolverines will have one more full team meet before the Winter Cup break, as they travel to State College, Pa., to take on No. 6 Penn State University on Friday (Feb. 2) at 7 p.m.
