ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team rallied for a close 4-3 victory over DePaul Sunday afternoon (Feb. 4) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines won four of the six singles matches and kept the Blue Demons from a doubles sweep with a victory at the No. 3 spot. This is the second year in a row that the Wolverines have defeated the Blue Demons (won 5-2 last year at the Varsity Tennis Center).
DePaul jumped out to 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, but Michigan completed the comeback with wins at the No. 3 through No. 6 singles spots. Senior Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gimnazium), junior Jen Vaughn (Jefferson City, Mo./Lawrence HS), freshman Kim Plaushines (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) and sophomore Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) pulled out straight-set singles victories for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines (3-0) will put their undefeated record on the line at Kentucky Friday (Feb. 9, 4 p.m.) and Tennessee Sunday (Feb. 11, noon). This will be the first two-match weekend of the season for Michigan.
