DeWildt Improves NCAA Provisional Mark in Pole Vault

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team sent a four-man squad to the Eastern Michigan Last Chance meet on Friday night (March 1) at EMU's Bowen Field House.
Senior Charles DeWildt (Wyoming, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) increased his NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the pole vault with a personal-best and winning height of 17-9. DeWildt had been ranked 10th in the nation with his previous mark of 17-7 1/2 as of Feb. 26.
Other Wolverines who competed were Terrence Rindler (Portage, Mich./Central HS), who won the mile with a time of 4:21.02, and Philip Stead (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child HS) and Kevin Rogan (Grass Lake, Mich./Grass Lake HS), who finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 800-meter run.
The Wolverines will be back in action on Friday (March 2) for the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., for the final meet before the NCAA Indoor Championships. U-M will have two 5,000-meter runners and the distance medley relay team looking to better their current NCAA provisional times.

Charles DeWildt's mark of 17-9 in the pole vault, brings him less than two inches away from the Michigan indoor record. Current assistant coach Brad Darr (1989-92) set the U-M indoor record with a height of 17-10 1/2.
