Five Wolverines Earn All-America Honors in Event Finals

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Junior Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) took home three All-America awards Saturday (April 7) to lead the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team on the final day of the NCAA Championships at Ohio State's St. John Arena. Vetere was one of five Wolverines competing in the Individual Event Finals.
Vetere, junior Daniel Diaz-Luong (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt HS) and sophomore Kris Zimmerman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS) each finished second in an event, with Vetere the runner-up on the still rings (9.487), Diaz-Luong second on the high bar (9.362) and Zimmerman just missing a repeat title on the parallel bars (9.250).
Vetere added All-America honors for his top-six performances on the parallel bars (9.012) and the horizontal bar (8.950). Including his fourth-place performance in Friday's all-around competition, Vetere is now an eight-time All-American.
Diaz-Luong also earned All-America honors on the parallel bars with a sixth-place finish (8.725) and Zimmerman scored 9.312 on the high bar to place third. Sophomore Conan Parzuchowski (Northville, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit HS) earned an All-America award with a fifth-place showing on the still rings (9.375)
Also competing in the Individual Event Finals for the Wolverines was junior Brad Kenna (Barberton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit HS), who placed seventh on the vault (8.975) and received All-America status as one of the top six Americans in the event.
