EUGENE, Ore. -- Freshman Melissa Bickett (Akron, Ohio/Revere HS) finished 18th in the discus today (Wednesday, May 30) at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Bickett's heave of 140-5 came on her first attempt, which proved to be her best effort on the day. Her second attempt was measured at 133-3 1/2, followed by a foul on her third toss. Katja Schreiber of Idaho won the crown with a 197-11 throw.
Bickett was looking to become the first Wolverine to receive All-America honors in the discus since Julie Victor (1990-93) accomplished the feat in 1990. Earlier this season, Bickett broke the Ferry Field record in the discus with her NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 164-4 (April 14).
Senior Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/LaSalle SS) will compete in the 1,500-meter run semifinals tomorrow (May 31) at 6 p.m. PDT, looking to qualify for the finals on Saturday (June 2) at 6 p.m. PDT.
Complete results are available at the NCAA Championships site.
