Boathouse Dedication Kicks Off Fall Schedule for U-M
9/13/2001 12:00:00 AM | Rowing
The $1.2-million boathouse, completed last spring, is the permanent home of the women's rowing team. The 6,000-square-foot facility not only houses the team's boats, but also has a classroom, athletic training facilities, locker room, coaches' offices and a lounge for use by the student-athletes. During the fun row, fans are invited to join members of the team in the boats for a lesson in rowing. Everyone in attendance will have a chance to participate.
For those new to the program, there will be an opportunity to meet the team and coaches. Members of the crew booster organization, The Open Water Club, will be on hand to help answer any questions.
The day also marks the start of the 2001 fall season. In addition to Boathouse Day, the team has three head races on its schedule, starting with the Head of the Ohio on Oct. 6 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Following a week off, the team will race at the Head of the Charles on Oct. 21 in Boston, Mass., and then close the fall racing season for the varsity team with the Head of the Elk on Oct. 28 in Elkhart, Ind. The novice team will close its season against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 10.
