The University of Michigan men's soccer team (4-6-1, 0-3 Big Ten) looks for its first Big Ten Conference win of season Sunday (Oct. 20) in Madison Wis., when the Wolverines face Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m. CDT at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Last year the Maize and Blue went 2-0 against Wisconsin. Michigan defeated the Badgers 2-1 at home on Oct. 21 and 1-0 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament (Nov. 8) at Wisconsin.
Scouting the Opponents ...
Wisconsin -- The Badgers enter the week's action with a record of 7-5-0, 1-2 in Big Ten Conference play, under first-year coach Jeff Rohrman. Wisconsin will take on the Wolverines at the McClimon Soccer Complex on Sunday (Oct. 20) after hosting Dartmouth on Friday (Oct. 18). Last season, Wisconsin posted a 10-8-1 overall record, falling to Michigan 1-0 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Both teams were a part of a three-way tie for a third-place finish in the conference. Leading the offense for the Badgers in 2002 is sophomore forward Nick Van Sicklen, who has collected six goals and four assists for 16 points. Senior co-captain Valentine Anozie has added nine points on three goals and three assists. The Badgers have also shown strength in goal, with junior/sophomore Eric Hanson making 46 saves and allowing 17 goals for a 1.38 goals-against average in 1105:44 minutes in net this season. Michigan vs. Wisconsin ...
The Wolverines hold a 2-1 advantage in the two-year series between the two schools. Michigan lost the opening match in 2000 by the score of 1-4 in Madison, Wis. (Oct. 20). Last year the Wolverines won both matches against their Big Ten rivals, as they defeated the Badgers 2-1 on the U-M Soccer Field (Oct. 21) on 1-0 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament (Nov. 8) held at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison. Knox Cameron (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman HS) led the offensive attack last year against Wisconsin. He scored two of Michigan's three goals, including the game-winner, in the program's first postseason victory.
Last Week: Home Split ...
Michigan went 1-1 at home last week as the Wolverines defeated Bowling Green State 2-0 Wednesday night (Oct. 9) on Elbel Field and lost to Michigan State 2-1 Sunday (Oct. 13) on the U-M Soccer Field. Sophomore Knox Cameron and junior captain Mike White (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) provided the goals for the Wolverines against Bowling Green, while sophomore Mychal Turpin (Pontiac, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) scored the program's lone goal against Michigan State Sunday. White tallied four points on a goal and two assists. White set Cameron up for the game-winner against BGSU in the first half before he netted the insurance goal in the second frame. Against MSU, White tipped the ba;; back to Turpin in the 82nd minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Freshman Peter Dzubay (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview HS) registered his first shutout and victory in the win over Bowling Green with two saves in his second career start.
Standing Room Only ...
Last Sunday (Oct. 13) 1,506 fans attended the match between Michigan and Michigan State on the U-M Soccer Field. It was the largest home crowd the to ever take in a Wolverine men's soccer match. The previous record was 1,487 set in the program's inaugural match against DePaul (Sept. 1) in 2000.

Freshman goalkeeper Peter Dzubay recorded two saves in Michigan's 2-0 victory over Bowling Green Wednesday night (Oct. 9) to mark his first career shutout victory in his second career start. With his first start in front of the home crowd, Dzubay turned away both shots he faced in the first half and was untested in the second frame. The win was the first of his career though he contributed to the Michigan wins over IUPUI (Sept. 6) and Evansville (Sept. 27).
White Washed ...
Junior captain Mike White netted one goal and helped on two others last weekend as he ran his season point total to a career-best 13 points. White entered the weekend with three goals and three assists but added one to each category when he contributed to both goals in the 2-0 win over Bowling Green (Oct. 9). White also aided on Michigan's lone against Michigan State (Oct. 13). It marked the fourth game this year and fifth game of his career that White has helped on two or more goals.
Turpin Time ...
Sophomore Mychal Turpin netted his career-best ninth goal of the season last Sunday (Oct. 13) in Michigan's 2-1 loss to Michigan State. Turpin found the back of the net at 81:34 when he sent a bouncing ball to the left of the keeper from 18 yards out.
Anything you can do I can do too ...
Sophomore forwards Mychal Turpin and Knox Cameron continued their battle as the program's all-time leading goal scorers last weekend as each player scored to increase his two-year tally total to 12. Cameron took a one-goal lead in the race with a game-winner against Bowling Green (Oct. 9), but Turpin answered with a goal against Michigan State (Oct. 13).

Sophomore Dawson Stellberger (Crested Butte, Colo./Crested Butte Academy) has started every game for the Wolverines this season, following a freshman year when he saw action in only four games. In his 11 starts this year Stellberger has taken a career-high three shots, including his first career shot on goal at Brown (Sept. 13).
How Hot is This ...
Mychal Turpin has scored at least one goal in seven of Michigan's 11 games this season, totaling a career and program-high nine goals. Thus far in 2002, Turpin has 19 points with nine goals and one assist. Included in the nine-goal total is the program's first hat trick. Turpin tallied a natural hat trick against IUPUI at Elbel Field in the Wolverines' 8-0 win on Sept. 6.

Goal Michigan, Michigan Goal ...
Michigan remained the Big Ten Conference leader in four offensive categories when play ended last Sunday (Oct. 13). The Wolverines have totaled a conference leading 83 points in 11 games with 28 goals and 27 assists. The Maize and Blue is tied with Michigan State for the conference lead in goals scored as each team has netted 28 goals. Michigan's 27 assists are second in the conference to Indiana's 31. The Wolverines also lead the conference in goals per game (2.55) and assist per game (2.45).
What's Your Favorite Dish ...
Freshman midfielder Adam Bruh (Roselyn Heights, N.Y./Wheatley HS) is the Big Ten's leader in assists this season as he has served up eight dishes in nine games for the Wolverines. In nine games this season Bruh is averaging 0.89 assists per game. The freshman is one helper ahead of Indiana's Ned Grabavoy and Ryan Mack.
Keepers Watch Your Back ...
Sophomore Mychal Turpin remained at the top of the conference goals scored list last weekend with his ninth goal tally of this against Michigan State last Sunday (Oct. 13). Turpin's nine goals are tied with Penn State's Chad Severs. Michigan's other sophomore net finder, Knox Cameron is tied for fourth in the conference with seven tallies in 2002.
I Love Gooooooooooals ...
Michigan scored a school-record eight goals against IUPUI on Sept. 6, surpassing its previous best scoring output of five, set last year in a home win against Western Michigan (Sept. 30). Since the program's inception in 2000, the Wolverines have totaled nine three-plus goal games, posting a record of 7-1-1.

Rain, Rain Go Away, You'll Make Us Play Another Day ...
Mother Nature decided the outcome of the Michigan vs. Oakland match Sept. 20 when she sent heavy rains and lighting in the Ann Arbor area, forcing the postponement of the match. After a 30-minute delay, the officials took the field to survey its conditions. It only took them five minutes to rule the field unplayable and the head coaches to reschedule the match for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. The venue will change, as the match will be played at the OU Soccer Field in Rochester, Mich. The two teams met there last year and played to a 2-2 tie.

Around the Corner ...
The Wolverines hit the road for a pair of matches in Illinois next weekend. Michigan will face non-conference opponent Illinois-Chicago Friday (Oct. 25) at 3 p.m. CDT on Flames Field before it faces Big Ten rival Northwestern Sunday afternoon (Oct. 27) at 2 p.m. on Lakeside Field.
