Michigan Rowers Close Fall Season at Head of the Elk

ELKHART, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team participated in the Head of the Elk on Sunday (Oct. 27) to close out the fall season. Michigan placed three varsity eights in the top 10 of the Women's Open Eight event and had three novice eights also record top-10 finishes.
Unlike many schools, the Wolverines boated mixed crews in an effort to place an emphasis on technique and teamwork instead of final standings. One effect of the unfamiliar lineups was the order of finish. In the Women's Open Eight, Michigan's second entry took second place with a time of 14:04.6, while the first entry finished sixth with a time of 14:32.9. The team's third entry took ninth, completing the three-mile course in 14:51.3. Michigan State's top boat took first with a time of 13:53.5.
U-M had one entry in the Women's Novice Eight A event and took second place. The Wolverines crossed the finish line in 15:05.96, while the first-place Michigan State novice eight finished in 15:00.3.
Michigan also entered two crews in the Women's Novice Eight B event. The first entry took second with a time of 15:55.3. The Wolverines' second entry finished sixth with a time of 16:51.0. Michigan State won the event, crossing the finish line in 15:22.6.
The Head of the Elk marks the end the of the fall season for the U-M women's rowing team.
