Rubin Claims Singles Title at Rocket Indoor Tournament

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Three members of the University of Michigan men's tennis team competed this past weekend (Friday through Sunday, Nov. 1-3) in the 2002 Rocket Indoor Tournament, hosted by the University of Toledo. A total of seven schools participated in the event, along with four independent players.
Sophomore Michael Rubin (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) led the way for the Maize and Blue, winning the "A" flight championship with a 4-0 record. Rubin claimed the title with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Western Michigan's Ravi Pathanjali in the final. Junior Brett Baudinet (Rarotonga, Cook Islands/King's College) and freshman Carey Rubin (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) each won opening-round singles matches.
In doubles play, Baudinet teamed with Michael Rubin to split a pair of matches, while Carey Rubin teamed with Ohio State's Joel Carney for a first-round win.
Michigan will conclude its fall season at the Big Ten Singles Championships, scheduled for Nov. 16-18 at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
