Freshman guard Daniel Horton had a career high in points (22), assists (5) and rebounds (5) against Central Michigan. His three steals also tie a career high.
Freshman wing Lester Abram had a career-high 14 points against CMU, junior wing Bernard Robinson Jr. set a career high with five steals, and senior wing LaVell Blanchard tied a season high with 21 points.
Michigan had four double-digit scorers in the game for the second time this season. The first came against Kansas State (Nov. 25) in the University of Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.
With his 21 points against the Chippewas, LaVell Blanchard surpassed the 1,400-point mark for his career at Michigan. Blanchard has amassed 1,412 in 90 career games and currently ranks 17th on Michigan's all-time career points list. Blanchard passed former NBA player Terry Mills, who totaled 1,405 career points as a Wolverine from 1988-90. He needs 34 points to tie Rumeal Robinson (1,446, 1988-90) for 16th.
LaVell Blanchard has moved into 17th place on U-M's career rebounds list. Blanchard has 673 boards in 90 career games wearing a Michigan jersey.
Bernard Robinson Jr. has scored in double figures in each of Michigan's five games this season.
The 78 points by U-M is a season high.
Freshman center Graham Brown got his first career start against Central Michigan. Rounding out the starting five were Bernard Robinson Jr., LaVell Blanchard, Daniel Horton and Gavin Groninger. It was Groninger's first start of the season.
Michigan's 0-5 start to the season is its worst in school history.
The Wolverines' all-time record against Central Michigan is 18-2. Before tonight's loss, U-M had won 15 consecutive meetings between the two schools dating back to Dec. 1, 1951, when the Chippewas won 60-43 in Mt. Pleasant. The loss is Michigan's first to CMU at Crisler Arena.
Tonight's announced attendance was 8,338.
Central Michigan forward Mike Manciel had a career-high 28 points against the Wolverines.
Chippewa center Chris Kaman had a double-double against U-M, scoring a career-high 30 points and pulling down a career-best 21 rebounds. Kaman's 21 boards tie him for fifth all-time in the Crisler Arena record books. U-M's Rudy Tomjanovich also grabbed 21 boards against Minnesota on Feb. 24, 1969.
