Wolverines in Third Place at USTCA Collegiate Challenge

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Led by a victory in the distance medley relay, the University of Michigan men's track and field team stands in third place after the first day of competition Friday (Feb. 8) at the USTCA Collegiate Challenge at Ashenfelter Indoor Track. The Wolverines totaled 26 points on the evening and trails host Penn State (38) and Indiana (35).
The distance medley relay posted an NCAA provisional mark and established a facility record with a time of 9:41.96. Running on a banked track, the quartet of sophomore Brian Turner (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS), senior Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS), junior Jeremy Schneider (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover HS) and freshman Nathan Brannen (Cambridge, Ontario/Preston HS) was over 11 seconds faster than Penn State's team that finished runner-up (9:53.10).
The Maize and Blue also received two runner-up performances, from freshman Nathan Taylor (Courtenay, British Columbia/GP Vanier HS) and senior All-American Mike Wisniewski (Temperance, Mich/Bedford HS). Taylor secured a time of 6.79 in the 60-meter dash while Wisniewski was under three seconds off the pace in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:21.82.
The USTCA Collegiate Challenge will conclude on Saturday (Feb. 9), with competition to begin at 10 a.m.
