She added the vault to her repertoire as a junior and was named the team's Most Improved Gymnast. She also earned the U-M Coach's Award and All-Big Ten honors on beam. As a senior, MacKenzie added an uneven bars routine and even competed in the floor exercise and all-around on three occasions. Her work on the vault resulted in a string of four consecutive 9.900 scores, one of which came at the Big Ten Championships (March 23) and placed her on the All-Big Ten team for the third time.
MacKenzie has also excelled in the classroom. She has been named National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women Scholastic All-American each of her first three years and should earn the honor again this season when the awards are announced in June. She has been on the Academic All-Big Ten team in each of the three years she has been eligible and has earned the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award four times.
MacKenzie is on track to graduate with a degree in secondary education-mathematics with a minor in psychology when she completes her student teaching next fall.
To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-America awards, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 GPA. The spring at-large team consists of athletes from fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo, and District IV includes schools from the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
