Michigan's 2002 Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor recipient, Toman is the only four-time team captain in Michigan men's gymnastics history. In 2002, he received the prestigious Nissen-Emery Award, given to the top senior male gymnast in the country. He is a five-time NCAA All-American and two-time NCAA parallel bars champion (1999, 2000), and was named the 1999 U-M Male Athlete of the Year after leading the Wolverines to the NCAA national title.
Toman has also been successful outside of NCAA competition with USA Gymnastics, including a ninth-place finish at the 2000 Olympic Trials.
To be nominated for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average for his career. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing. True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible for the award.
