CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former University of Michigan men's gymnastics standout Justin Toman (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall HS), who recently completed his senior season, finished in sixth place at the U.S. National Gymnastics Championships, held Aug. 7-9 at Gund Arena. The finish cemented Toman's spot on the USA Senior National Team and guaranteed him an invitation to the team's training camp October in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he will participate in an intrasquad competition to select the 2002 World Championship Team members.
The sixth-place result is Toman's highest finish at the competition. Finishing in front of Toman were 2001 World Championship Team member Paul Hamm, 2000 Olympian Blaine Wilson, 2001 World Championship Team member Guard Young, 2000 Olympian Morgan Hamm and 2000 Olympian and 2001 World Championship Team member Sean Townsend. Toman finished third overall at the U.S. National Qualifier in June.
