Michigan Takes Third Place in Five-Team Meet at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The fifth-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team took on No. 8 Stanford, No. 4 California, No. 9 Nebraska and Washington on Saturday (March 1) at Stanford's Burnham Pavilion, and the Wolverines placed third out of the five teams with a score of 211.825, their fourth best score of the season.
The Wolverines were led by senior Conan Parzuchowski (Northville, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit HS), who finished in second place on the still rings (9.600). Parzuchowski has been the Wolverines leader this season on the still rings, posting a season average of 9.525. Freshman Justin Laury (Marietta, Ga./McEachern HS) had yet another solid performance for the Wolverines on the still rings (9.300). Laury was the only Wolverine to compete in the all-around competition and finished with the fourth best score (53.050).
Freshman Andrew DiGiore (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) was again the Wolverines' leader on the vault (9.150). DiGiore edged out teammate Derek Croad (Jackson, Mich./Western HS), who turned in his second best performance of the year on the vault (9.125). Freshman Devin Deer (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) saw his first action of the year in competing on the still rings (8.150).
Senior Jamie Hertza (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield HS) had another strong finish for the Wolverines on the pommel horse (9.200). This was Hertza's second best performance of the season, with his best score of the season coming at the Windy City Invitational the first week of the season (9.350).
Senior Brian Peterson (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado HS) and sophomore Kevin George (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral HS) both turned in season-best performances. Peterson's best performance of the season came on the pommel horse (9.150), while George turned in his season best on the still rings (9.000).
The Wolverines will have a week off before they travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m.
