ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Cold, windy and wet conditions today (Saturday, April 5) have forced several University of Michigan varsity athletics teams to make schedule adjustments. The women's rowing regatta has been postponed a day, while doubleheaders in baseball and softball have been canceled.
The No. 5-ranked U-M women's rowing team's home regatta against No. 9 Michigan State and Eastern Michigan, which was scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Belleville Lake, has been postponed due to high winds and rescheduled for Sunday (April 6) at 9 a.m.
The start of the Michigan baseball team's series against Big Ten leader Minnesota was delayed again with the cancellation of Saturday's doubleheader. The games will not be made up. The Wolverines (12-10, 3-1 Big Ten) and Golden Gophers (14-10, 4-0 Big Ten), who had a single game Friday postponed as well, will try to get in two games of the originally scheduled four-game series with a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m. EDTÂ (remember to Spring forward)Â at Ray Fisher Stadium.
The 15th-ranked Wolverines softball team's doubleheader against league-leading Iowa has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. The teams were originally scheduled to play single games on Friday and Saturday, but Friday's game was postponed due to inclement weather. With Michigan head coach Carol Hutchins two wins away from becoming the 14th coach in NCAA Division I history to reach 800 wins, the Wolverines (21-8, 3-1 Big Ten) will return to action on Tuesday (April 8, 2 p.m.) for a home doubleheader against Central Michigan at Alumni Field. Michigan's next Big Ten action will be on Friday (April 11, 6 p.m. CDT) for the first of a two-game set at Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.
