Hauser-Prices Completes Triple in Final Day of Paddock

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore sprinter Sierra Hauser-Price (Van Nuys, Calif./Notre Dame HS) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team showed off her quickness today (Saturday, May 10), winning a pair of individual races -- the 100- and 200-meter dashes -- as well as anchoring the Wolverines' first-place 4x100-meter relay on the second and final day of the Len Paddock Invitational. Freshman Shavonne Maclin (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont School) produced another Michigan short-track victory, winning the 400-meter dash.

Hauser-Price swept the 100 and 200 at the Paddock Invite for the second straight year.

Hauser-Price opened her day of action as the final leg of the 4x100-meter relay. The Wolverines took an early lead in the race as senior/junior Robin Landfair (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) handed the baton to fellow classmate Carly Knazze (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS) with a slight advantage after the first 100 meters of the race.

Knazze opened the lead during the second 100 before handing off to junior Vera Simms (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS), who then passed the baton to Hauser-Price for the final dash to the finish line. With baton in hand, Hauser-Price would not be caught as she crossed the finish line with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 45.36, 0.83 seconds ahead of runner-up Western Michigan.

Following a 20-minute recovery period, Hauser-Price was back on the track for the 100-meter dash. Running in the lane four, she pulled ahead of the seven-member field at the 25-meter mark and never looked back, clocking in with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 11.66.

Hauser-Price turned in her third event victory and NCAA Regional qualifying mark when she posted a personal-best time of 23.66 to win the 200-meter dash. Competing in the second section of the event, she crossed the finish line 0.67 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in her heat. Knazze, the event's overall runner-up, also posted an NCAA Regional qualifying time, winning the first section of the race in a season-best 23.86. Knazze's previous best in the event was 23.99 last week at the Jesse Owens Classic (May 2).

Continuing Michigan's success in the sprints, Maclin earned her first victory of the outdoor season when she crossed the finish line of the 400-meter dash with a outdoor season-best time of 56.46.

The Wolverines will look to complete the Big Ten triple crown next Thursday through Sunday (May 16-18) in Minneapolis, Minn., as the Golden Gophers of Minnesota play host to the Big Ten Conference Outdoor Championships. Michigan's defense of its 2002 outdoor team crown begins at 12:15 p.m. CDT Friday afternoon with the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles.
