Ketchum Collects Silver Medal at Pan American Games

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Senior Dan Ketchum (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team used a lifetime best 1:49.34 to claim the silver medal in the 200-meter freestyle Monday (Aug. 11) on the first day of competition at the Pan American Games.

It marks Ketchum's third medal in international competition. At the 2001 World University Games he swam to a bronze medal in the 200-meter freestyle and picked up a silver medal as a member of the 800-meter freestyle relay team.
Davis Tarwater (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School), who will be a U-M sophomore in this coming season, turned in a time of 1:51.36 in the 200-meter freestyle while swimming the event exhibition.
The Pan American Games continue through Saturday (Aug. 16). Ketchum is scheduled to swim in the 800-meter freestyle relay on Tuesday, while Tarwater is slated to swim the 400-meter freestyle on Thursday.
