Michigan Cruises to Sweep Over East Tennessee State

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team opened play in the Toyota LV Classic with an easy 3-0 victory over East Tennessee State on Friday (Sept. 12) evening at the Stokely Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee. Game scores were 30-16, 30-15, 30-19. Senior Erin Moore (Tiffin, Ohio/Columbian HS) led the Wolverines with a match-high 18 kills and hit a career-best .571 as U-M dominated in every facet of the match.
The Wolverines, who hit a season-high .465 in the match, out-blocked the Buccanners 15-1 and served up 10 aces, also a season high.
Michigan set the tone of the match in game one, taking 15 of a possible 19 points after the score was 14-11 to cruise to a 30-16 victory. In game two, the Wolverines built up a 15-5 lead and never looked back, scoring 10 of the game's final 12 points to win 30-15. The final stanza was no different at U-M led by as many as 10 during the game before finishing the match with a 30-19 victory.
Moore was the only Wolverine in double figures, topping 10 kills for the sixth consecutive match. She also registered a career-high .571 attack percentage, committing only two errors in her match-high 28 attempts. Freshman Megan Bowman (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) led Michigan's defensive efforts with a career-high eight blocks on two solos and six assists, also career highs, while redshirt freshman Erin Cobler (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) came off the bench to tally six blocks, including five assists. Junior Jennifer Gandolph (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) paced the squad in digs, recording seven.
Michigan will continue play in the Toyota LV Classic on Saturday (Sept. 13), taking on Cal State-Fullerton and the host Tennessee Lady Vols. U-M will meet the Titans at 11 a.m. before facing the Lady Vols at 7 p.m.

NOTES
• Erin Moore has hit double-figure kills in 54 of her 84 career matches, including six straight times this year. Her .571 attack percentage was a career high, topping the .500 (12-2-20) she hit on three occasions, with the last coming against Iowa on Nov. 16, 2002.
• Megan Bowman recorded a career-high eight blocks, including the first two block solos of her career. Bowman's six block assists also topped her previous high of five, set on four occasions this season.
• Twelve Wolverines -- which constitutes all of Michigan's healthy players -- saw action in the match. Senior Nicole Poquette (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) was pulled in the first game and will rest in tomorrow morning's match against Cal State-Fullerton. She is expected to start against Tennessee.
• Michigan's .465 attack percentage was a season high and its highest since hitting .512 against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 8, 2001.
