BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team began its 2003 fall season with a controlled competition against Michigan State and Eastern Michigan on Sunday (Sept. 21) at Belleville Lake. The three teams collectively split their boats into two sets of five to create an "A" flight and "B" flight. Stroke rates were set at 25 strokes per minute and the races lasted five minutes. No formal times or finishes were kept for the event.
In the "A" flight, U-M and MSU each raced two boats while EMU raced one. Michigan State finished first in all five races, with the Michigan boats and the other Spartan boat trading second, third and fourth places in each race. Eastern Michigan finished fifth in all five races.
In the "B" flight, the Wolverines had two boats as did the Eagles, while Michigan State had one shell. MSU again swept all five races, with U-M finishing second and third ahead of the Eagles.
