Allen-Young Leads U-M to 10th at Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- The No. 13 University of Michigan women's cross country team recieved top-20 performances by graduate/senior Jessie Allen-Young (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley HS) and sophomore Rebecca Walter (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves HS) as the Wolverines finished 10th in the 26-team field at the 18th annual Roy Griak Invitational Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27) on Les Bolstad Golf Course. Arizona State was won the team title with 103 points while U-M was 10th with 245.
Allen-Young paced the Maize and Blue crew for the second consecutive meet, placing 11th with a time of 21:13. Walter earned the 15th spot in the results as she posted a time of 22:18. Running in her first meet of the year, senior Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS) finished the 6,000-meter course in 21:54 for 49th overall.
After a week off, the Wolverines will head to Allendale, Mich., and the campus of Grand Valley State University for the Michigan Intercollegiate on Friday, Oct. 10. The 5,000-meter race is scheduled for 4 p.m.
