U-M Shuts Down Pacific for Seventh Consecutive Victory

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team extended its winning streak to seven consecutive games with a 3-0 shutout against Pacific on Saturday (Oct. 9) at Iowa's Grant Field. The Wolverines held Pacific to just one shot late in the game as senior goalkeeper Molly Maloney (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS) earned her 29th career victory in the U-M cage.
Senior Adrienne Hortillosa (Chula Vista, Calif./Bonita Vista HS) opened the scoring late in the first half, scoring the only goal Michigan would need at the 29:20 mark.
The Wolverines added a pair of goals in the second half, framing the period with an early tally at 37:18 and a late marker at 61:17. Junior/sophomore Katie Morris (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) scored for her fourth consecutive game, tipping a shot by Hortillosa past Tigers goalkeeper Kim Myers. Freshman Lauren Conforzi (Mississagua, Ontario/Gordon Grayson HS) registered her second collegiate goal to give U-M the three-goal advantage after accepting a pass from senior Jessica Blake (Perth, Western Australia/St. Mary's Anglican).
Michigan (10-3, 2-0 Big Ten) will wrap up the weekend on Sunday (Oct. 10) against host Iowa in an 11 a.m. CDT match at the Hawkeyes' Grant Field.
