ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Three members of the University of Michigan field hockey team -- seniors Jessica Blake (Perth, Western Australia/St. Mary's Anglican) and Adrienne Hortillosa (Chula Vista, Calif./Bonita Vista HS) and junior Lori Hillman (Gibbsboro, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) -- were selected to the 16-member STX/NFHCA Division I All-West Region first team, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Tuesday (Nov. 16). Senior Katy Moyneur (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) also earned NFHCA All-Region honors as one of 16 members on the West Region's second team.
It marks the seventh time in eight seasons that the Wolverines boasted at least three individuals on the All-Region first team and the ninth consecutive year with at least two representatives.
Hortillosa, the Big Ten's Player of the Year, garnered regional recognition from the NFHCA for the second time during her U-M career, adding to her All-West Region second team honors in 2003. The senior midfielder ranked second in scoring for the Wolverines, tallying career highs in goals (16) and points (43) while leading U-M in assists for the third consecutive season with 11.
Blake earned first-team All-Region honors for the first time after leading the Wolverines with a career-high 19 goals and 47 points. The Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Year and two-time conference Athlete of the Week selection, Blake more than doubled her point total from her previous three seasons combined (41), while her 19 goals are five more than the total from her first three years (14).
Hillman, the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year as well as Big Ten Tournament's Most Valuable Player, was also an All-West Region first team choice for the first time after registering one goal and 10 assists for 12 points while quarterbacking the Michigan defense, which limited opponents to just 1.39 goals per game and boasted nine shutouts.
With their first-team All-Region status, Blake, Hortillosa and Hillman are candidates for the STX/NFHCA All-America team. The group will be announced on Monday, Nov. 22, a day after the conclusion of the NCAA Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Moyneur, the Wolverines' only second-team pick, received All-Region honors for the first time in her career in recognition of her key role among the U-M defensive corps. Moyneur, a All-Big Ten second team selection, started every game during her four-year career at Michigan and ranks third on U-M's career games played list with 91 consecutive appearances.
