ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan wrestling head coach Joe McFarland announced Wednesday (Dec. 1) that three student-athletes -- Justin Chrazanowski (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer West HS), Braden L'Amoreaux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS) and Mike Milano (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River HS) -- have signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to attend and compete in wrestling at the University next fall.
"We're really excited about having these three wrestlers join our program next season," said McFarland. "All three of them embody the type of student-athlete that we look for at Michigan -- an aggressive style, a tireless work ethic and a committment to daily improvement. I think they will all fit well into our program and help maintain a strong wrestling tradition at Michigan."
Chrzanowski enters his senior season ranked as the No. 5 high school 135-pound wrestler in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News. He is a two-time Michigan state champion, winning the 135-pound title in 2004 and the 130-pound title in 2003, and a three-time state finalist, placing second at 119 pounds as a freshman in 2002. A three-time wrestling letterwinner, Chrzanowski holds an impressive 167-8 career mark. In freesytle and Greco-Roman competition, Chrzanowski placed third at the 2003 Cadet National Championships, and he is a seven-time freestyle state champion and two-time Greco-Roman state champion. He will likely wrestle at 133 or 141 pounds at Michigan.
L'Amoreax, a three-year letterwinner at Clarkston High School, captured the 140-pound Michigan state title in 2004. He owns a career record of 128-24, including a perfect 51-0 mark during his junior campaign. L'Amoreaux claimed double All-America honors at the 2003 Cadet National Championships, winning the 135-pound freestyle division and claiming eighth place in Greco-Roman. He is projected to compete at 149 pounds for Michigan.
"Justin and Braden are both Michigan kids who are familiar with the program we have here," said McFarland. "Both have excelled at the international level, which brings a different element to their style and training. I think both will have a great impact on Michigan wrestling in the future."
A talented wrestler from the Cleveland area, Milano placed third at the Ohio state championships at 152 pounds as a sophomore in 2003 before an injury cut short his season last year. Away from the wrestling mat, Milano has excelled in football for the Rocky River squad, breaking the program's career rushing and career scoring records. Milano is projected to compete at 157 or 165 pounds for Michigan.
"Mike has had great success in his wrestling," said McFarland, "but he's largely flown under the radar after an injury ended his season last year. He's a hard worker, and he's committed to his wrestling. I think he has a big upside, and I know he'll develop into an outstanding wrestler."
Michigan continues its early season competition Friday and Saturday (Dec. 3-4) at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. Wrestling action kicks off with the pigtail round at 9 a.m. PST Friday at the Cashman Center.
