Vozza Leads Michigan to 14th at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's golf team finished 14th in the two-day (April 10-11) Boilermaker Invitational at Kampen Golf Course. The Wolverines held their spot in the standings from start to finish, shooting an overall 901 (301-297-303) for the 54-hole, par-72 tournament.
Sophomore Christian Vozza (Traverse City, Mich./Grand Rapids Baptist HS) led the Wolverines for the second straight tournament, tying for 27th in the standings. He carded a 221 three-round total, opening with a one-over 73 and an even-par 72 on day one before closing the invitational with a 76.
Freshman Kevin Dore (Dundas, Ontario/St. Mary's HS) finished just one stroke behind Vozza, opening with a 77 in round one and matching his teammate with an even-par 72 in the second. He closed with a 73 to tie for 31st with a 222 total.
Other Wolverine finishes included: senior/junior Rob Tighe (Traverse City, Mich./West HS), tied for 60th (74-79-76/229); sophomore Brandon Duff (Goodrich, Mich./Powers Catholic HS), tied for 74th (77-78-78/233); and senior Dave Nichols (Mesa, Ariz./Rochester Adams [Mich.] HS), 88th (89-75-79/243).
Host Purdue ran away with the title, finishing with a nine-under 855-team total for a two-stroke lead over second-place Colorado. The Boilermakers shot the best team round of the tournament with an 11-under 277 in round two on their home course.Colorado's Kane Webber finished first with a 10-under total of 206, shooting a six-under 66 in the final round after starting the day two shots behind Northwestern's Tom Johnson.
The Wolverines will continue play in Big Ten country as they head to Columbus, Ohio, Saturday and Sunday (April 17-18) for the Robert Kepler/Cleveland Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament will be played at Ohio State's prestigious Scarlet Course.
