Allen-Young Leads Seven Wolverines at Cardinal Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- University of Michigan women's track and field graduate/senior Jessie Allen-Young (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley HS) led seven Wolverine mid-distance and distance runners at the non-scoring Cardinal Invitational when she captured the title in the C section of the 1,500-meter run Friday night (April 30) on Stanford's Cobb Track.
Allen-Young took the top spot in the four-lap race as she crossed the finish line with a season-best and NCAA regional qualifying mark of 4:27.07 It marks her first NCAA regional qualifying honor of her Michigan career, as her previous best in the Maize and Blue was 4:31.96 set back on the opening weekend of the outdoor season (March 19).
Freshman Jackie Gaydos (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park HS) was 10th in the race with a clocking of 4:34.09.
In the 800-meter run senior/junior Anna Jones (Omaha, Neb./Marion HS) earned a trip to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Baton Rouge, La., when she crossed the finish line of the event's B Section with a season-best time of 2:09.09 for second place. Her previous best this year was 2:10.46 at the Sea Ray Relays (April 3).
In the same event, junior Tracy Egnatuk (Albion, Mich./Albion HS) and Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele HS) finished fourth (2:11.00) and ninth (2:14.58), respectively.
Michigan's two other competitors at the Cardinal Invite, senior/junior Ana Gjesdal (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley HS) and Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS), both turned in NCAA regional qualifying times for the second time this season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Gjesdal led the charge over the water pits as she finished 10th in a season-best 10:38.09, while Parker was 16th with a time of 10:46.56.
The rest of the Michigan track team is in competition in Big Ten Country as they conclude action at the Jesse Owens Classic Saturday (May 1) in Columbus, Ohio.
