Rothstein, the only coach in the program's eight seasons, is receiving his third Big Ten Coach of the Year honor (2000, '01, '04) in the five years that the conference has sponsored the sport. He shared the 2000 award with Michigan State's BeBe Bryans. Rothstein's work has not gone unnoticed at the national level either. He was tabbed as the Collegiate Rowing Coaches' Association Central Region Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2001 and the National Coach of the Year in 2001.
In 2003, Mandoli was a member of the CRCA All-Central Region second team and All-Big Ten second team. She also was on the All-Big Ten second team in 2002. Mandoli's work in the classroom has resulted in three U-M Athletic Academic Achievement awards (2001, '02, '04) and two Academic All-Big Ten selections (2002, '03).
Mandoli is the fourth Michigan rower in five years to garner the conference's honor. Previous U-M recipients of the Big Ten Rower of the Year award include Kate Johnson (2000, 2001) and Erin Kopicki (2003).
After taking this weekend off, No. 10 Michigan will return to the water May 15-16 at the Central Region Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The NCAA Championships take place two weeks later (May 28-30) in Sacramento, Calif.
