Former Wolverine Potts Takes 22nd in Olympic Triathlon

ATHENS, Greece -- Former University of Michigan men's swimmer Andy Potts (1996-99) finished 22nd overall in the triathlon today (Thursday, Aug. 26) at the 2004 Olympic Games. Potts finished the three portions of the race with a total time of 1:55:36.47 and was the second American across the finish line behind Hunter Kemper (1:52:46.33). Hamish Carter from New Zealand won the gold medal with a time of 1:51:07.03.
Potts, a distance swimmer during his time at Michigan, won the 1,500-meter swimming leg of the race with a time of 17:49. He then came in 15th in the 40-kilometer bike ride in 1:03:05 and finished 30th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:42.
