Today's announced attendance of 80,795 is the largest crowd ever to witness a Michigan-Notre Dame game at Notre Dame Stadium.
Sophomore placekicker Garrett Rivas hit three first-half field goals, connecting from 38, 33 and 22 yards. He added a 47-yard career long in the third quarter to become the third U-M kicker to notch four field goals against Notre Dame (Remy Hamilton in 1994 and Jeff Del Verne in 1999).
Rivas was the first U-M kicker to connect on four field goals since Jeff Del Verne hit four-of-five tries in a 26-22 victory against the Irish on Sept. 9, 1999.
Senior wide receiver Braylon Edwards led the team in receiving for the second straight game, catching 12 passes for 125 yards. It was his second highest reception total and third best receiving yardage total. Edwards has 11 games with more than 100 yards receiving.
Edwards hauled in double-digit receptions for the fourth time in his career. He set career highs in receptions (13) and receiving yards (144) in a losing effort at Oregon last season.
Edwards caught a season-long 45-yard pass from Chad Henne on the opening play of Michigan's third field goal drive.
Senior cornerback Markus Curry picked his NCAA-leading third interception of the season. Curry intercepted Brady Quinn at ND's 42-yard line and returned it five yards to set up the Wolverines' opening field goal.
Sophomore safety Ryan Mundy ended a Notre Dame scoring chance with a diving interception at the U-M 20-yard line during the second quarter. Mundy picked up an interception for the second straight game.
Fifth-year senior fullback Kevin Dudley was selected the Wolverines' special teams captain for the game.
Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn completed a 46-yard touchdown pass to receiver Matt Shelton at the 11:02 mark of the third quarter to end the Irish's scoring drought at six quarters against the Wolverines.
Steve Breaston collected Michigan's final eight points of the afternoon with a 25-yard scoring pass from Chad Henne and a two-point extra point pass from Henne. Breaston had five receptions for 42 yards in the game.
Jason Avant had three receptions for 30 yards, extending his streak with a reception to 14 games.
Jerome Jackson carried 15 times for 32 yards to lead the Wolverines in rushing.
Ernest Shazor and Gabe Watson shared the Wolverines in tackles with eight each. Shazor had five solos (three assists).
Michigan's defense collected four turnovers giving the Wolverines 11 takeaways, including eight interceptions in two weeks of action.
