ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team knocked off No. 22 Boston University 3-0 Sunday afternoon (Sept. 12) in the final game of the Michigan Classic at the U-M Soccer Field. Junior Therese Heaton (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South HS) and freshman Melissa Dobbyn (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) recorded goals in a span of 4:19 in the first half, and Heaton added an insurance score in the closing minutes to lead the Wolverines to victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Tuura (Tucker, Ga./St. Pius X Catholic HS) was solid between the posts, making six saves for her first shutout of the season and the sixth of her career.

Four minutes later, Dobbyn ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box past Dreyer and into the right corner of the cage to give Michigan the two-goal advantage at 24:47. U-M nearly went up by three goals before the break, as sophomore Judy Coffman (San Jose, Calif./Santa Theresa HS) made a pretty move and got around two defenders and made a dash for the net, but her shot was stopped by Dreyer. Meanwhile, the Wolverine defense was stellar in the first half, allowing just three BU shots and no corner kicks.
Boston U. came out and played a much more agressive style in the second half, outshooting the Wolverines 9-4. Fortunately for U-M, Tuura was on top of her game and made four saves in the final 45 minutes, including a fantastic diving stop on a shot by Melissa Shulman late in the game.
Heaton slammed the door shut on the Terriers with just under four mintues remaining in the game, as she got behind the defense and took a pass from Dobbyn before going in all alone for the third and final goal of the contest.
The Wolverines (3-2-1) open Big Ten Conference action next weekend at the U-M Soccer Field. Michigan will host Northwestern on Friday (Sept. 17) at 2:30 p.m. and Illinois on Sunday (Sept. 19) at 1 p.m.

Q U O T E S
U-M Head Coach Debbie Rademacher
On the game ... "I thought it was a good soccer game and I think that it played into our strengths. Things got a little chaotic on Friday (against Syracuse) where we couldn't settle the ball. But obviously scoring two goals in the first half today is something we really needed. That was the difference, we finished today what we couldn't finish on Friday."
On whether the team changed its strategy in the second half ... "We really felt like we needed to get a third goal because 2-0 is kind of a scary score. Teams tend to get complacent when they're up two goals, we felt like we needed another goal so we kept things the same."
On Megan Tuura recording a shutout ... "That's huge for her. She made some saves that kept us in the game. We saw the two saves she made that could have been goals. That's great for her and great for us. Going into the Big Ten season, we just needed to come out on a real positive note."
On the recent success of Therese Heaton ... "It's awesome. I'm so happy for her because she's finally healthy. After a great freshman year and then a frustrating sophomore year, I think she just feels good physically. It makes playing so much more fun for her."
