Michigan Relay Squad Dominates Day One at Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team's 4x800-meter relay squad took top prize and set a new Nutter Field House record, dominating day one of the Kentucky Invitational on Friday (Jan. 14). Sophomore/freshman Laura Glynn (Farmington Hills, Mich/Harrison), freshman Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Man./Vinent assey), senior/junior Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele) and fifth-year senior Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) crossed the finish in 8:47.75, nearly 26 seconds faster than the second-place Clemson Tigers, and shattered by 6.01 seconds the previous record set by Auburn University in 2003.
In the weight throw, senior Ashley Eckel (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) took eighth place with a career-best distance of 57-3 3/4, while senior Tara Kennedy (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) took 12th with a career-best 50-6. Senior Amy Bicknell (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Hills) placed 13th with a season-high distance of 50-5 1/2, while sophomore Bridgette Maynard (Madison, Mich./Bishop Foley) took 17th with a season-best performance of 48-11 1/2.
Michigan competes in the second and final day of the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 15).
