EVANSTON, Ill. -- Three University of Michigan men's soccer players were selected for All-Big Ten Conference honors, the league announced Thursday (Nov. 10) at the annual postseason tournament banquet held at the North Shore Skokie Hotel.
Senior goalkeeper Peter Dzubay (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) earned second team All-Big Ten honors, while defenders Michael Holody (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) and Chase Tennant (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) were picked for all-freshman team honors.
In addition, senior Trai Blanks (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) was chosen as Michigan's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Dzubay started all 19 games in goal this season, playing 1765:38 minutes and grabbing 72 saves with a goals-against average of 1.22. He tied his own U-M single-season record of five shutouts, and his 22 saves in Big Ten play tied him for fourth in the conference. The senior goalkeeper, who was a first team All-Big Ten pick in 2003, tallied his season high in saves (8) vs. No. 2-ranked Indiana (Oct. 9). Dzubay was also named to the All-Big Ten Tournament team.
Holody played 15 games and started 13, helping U-M total five shutouts overall, including a 1-0 blanking of Northwestern in the conference opener (Sept. 25). Holody also took six shots, with three shots on goal, for the season.
The only U-M freshman to play in all 19 games, Tennant made 18 starts and tallied five points on two goals and one assist. In the 4-2 victory over Wisconsin (Oct. 23) Tennant scored a goal at the 35:06 mark and added an assist. He scored the game-tying goal with 7:56 left in regulation in Michigan's 2-1, double-overtime win over No. 25 Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Oct. 20).
Blanks, one of five seniors on the team, played in all 19 games and started 12. He was the second leading point man (9), tied for first on the team with four goals, and led the Wolverines with three game-winning goals. His biggest game-winner came against No. 25 Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Oct. 20, when he scored in the second overtime at the 108:19 mark. Blanks scored two goals in the 3-1 victory over Long Island (Sept. 11) in the Michigan Invitational on his way to earning all-tournament honors.
